CEO of Apple Tim Cook comes out the closet as a gay man. There has always been whispers of his sexuality so the news comes as no shock to Silicon Valley. Tim is happy to be open with the public and says,
“Let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me,”
Wow, very powerful statement made by very powerful man. His coming out will serve as an open door for the entire LGBT community to walk through. He broke boundaries doing this. Now, those openly gay have a role mode who is a CEO of possibly the largest company in the world. If that isn’t inspiration I don’t know what is.
“When a CEO of a global company like Apple comes out, it opens the doors for LGBT employees around the world to be their authentic selves,” said Selisse Berry, founder of the nonprofit Out & Equal Workplace Advocates. “It also paves the way for more out executives and CEOs to do the same; once the LGBT ceiling has been broken, it gives employees the freedom to put all their energy into their work without having to hide their personal lives.”
